Equality, Diversity and Religion

Equality, Diversity and Religion is a compulsory part of secondary education. There will not be timetabled lessons of Equality, Diversity and Religion for all students – instead the core programme will be delivered through mentor sessions throughout the year.

The following religions and world views are studied within this subject:

Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Atheism.

The themes covered are:

• The challenges and opportunities growing up as a teenager with or without a faith background.
• The compatibility of the scientific and religious worlds
• Religious understandings of life and death
• The diversity in our society and the role of equality and religion in brining communities together
• The role of equality in 21st Century Britain
• The religious and non-religious views on crime and punishment
