Thursday 17th July 2025 marked the annual Garibaldi Awards Evening for our students at The John Fretwell Centre. We were so pleased to see so many students, staff, parents and other family members joining together to celebrate in their successes and achievements.
Over 134 awards and prizes were presented with nominations coming from teachers, mentors, Heads of Year, Governors and the Head Teacher. It was fantastic to hear so many positive and personal comments in support of the award winners and an opportunity to reflect on the hard work, resilience and talent that contributed to their achievements.
The Heads of Year prizes was awarded to Year 7 Kallie Ford, Year 8 Ava Pritchard, Year 9 Leonie Topham, Year 10 Phoebe Booker, Year 11 Chloe Moon, Year 12 Cory Vincent and finally Year 13 Ashton Lang. Well done to all of these amazing students!
Our Governors Award 2025 was awarded to Declan Simpson in Year 10, for showing exceptional resilience and determination, consistently making the most of every opportunity that has come his way. His Attitude to Learning has been outstanding, with an impressive average of 1.1 throughout his time at The Garibaldi School. His academic journey is equally as inspiring: starting in set 5 and progressing to set 1 in Year 7, he has continued to apply himself with dedication and focus. He now finishes Year 10 with the second-highest predicted grade average in his year group. We cant wait to see what Declan achieves in Year 11.
At the end of the evening Mr Cassidy thanked all those who had supported our students in their successes and looked forward to their achievements yet to come. His Head Teachers prize was awarded to Chloe Moon who was our Year 11 Head of Year award winner for being a student who is universally respected and admired by both staff and peers. Over the past five years at Garibaldi, she has truly embodied the values and ethos of our school. Chloe has continued to seize every opportunity to get involved. She has campaigned for environmental awareness, even delivering an assembly to the whole school. As a Student Leader, she has helped amplify student voice, participated in staff interview panels, and spoken with passion and honesty to visitors—including Ofsted inspectors—about her experiences at Garibaldi. Her record speaks for itself: 99.3% attendance, nearly 500 positive points, zero negatives, and an outstanding Attitude to Learning average of 1.05. Her predicted grades for the summer reflect her academic strength and the confidence her teachers have in her abilities. Well done Chloe we are very proud of you.
This rounded off a lovely uplifting evening where student achievement and success was front and centre. Well done to all our students who were presented with awards this year.
A Night to Remember.......... Year 11 Prom 2025
On Tuesday, 24th June 2025, our Year 11 students celebrated their much anticipated Prom Night at The John Fretwell Centre—and what a spectacular evening it was!
Months in the Making.........
The preparation for this unforgettable event began months in advance, with meticulous attention to detail ensuring a truly magical experience and a special thanks to our Student Prom Committee - Phoebe Devonshire, Jade Tebbutt and Sophie Skinner for all their contributions over the past few months. From elegant decorations to a fantastic party atmosphere, everything came together perfectly to create an evening filled with joy, laughter, and lifelong memories.
As the students arrived, they looked absolutely stunning, many almost unrecognisable in their elegant gowns and sharp suits. Their arrivals were just as dazzling, featuring an impressive variety of transport—from race cars and vintage cars and motorbikes to an impressive arrival by helicopter. With perfect weather on our side, students, staff, and parents took the opportunity to mingle, chat, and capture plenty of special moments before heading inside.
One of the highlights of the night was the photo backdrop, which remained busy throughout the evening as friendship groups and staff took countless snaps to remember the night. The sweetie cart was another firm favorite, proving impossible to resist by all!
Awards were a key part of the evening, with winners proudly receiving their titles, as voted for by their peers including....
Most Likely to be Billionaires - Harry Liversage & Lewis Gerus
Most Likely to be Prime Minister - Lewis Johnson & Bailee Cresswell
Sporting Superstars - Tilly Orton & Tawana Chikozho
Most Likely to Travel into Outer Space - Luke Wilson
And many more.........
And, of course, the moment everyone had been waiting for—the crowning of the Prom Monarchs 2025: Georgia Gillespie & Archie Graham who donned their crowns and sash whilst on our white thrones with pride and sophistication.
Special Thanks
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who made this event so special.........
And, of course, our dedicated staff who attended to celebrate with the students as they mark the end of their incredible journey at The Garibaldi School.
The evening was a resounding success, and our students made us incredibly proud. It was a beautiful way to celebrate their time together and bid farewell before stepping into their next exciting chapter.
We look forward to seeing those same beaming smiles on results day!
We recently came together to give our Year 13 students a warm and memorable send off with a celebratory evening at The Red in Mansfield. It was a special occasion, bringing together staff and students from The Garibaldi School to honour the achievements and journey of our leavers.
The night was filled with joy, reflection, and celebration—a fitting close to an important chapter. As we said our farewells, we also looked ahead with excitement, knowing we’ll see many of them again on Results Day in August as they prepare for the next stage of their lives—whether that be university, apprenticeships, or entering the world of work.
We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and wish them every success in the future!
Garibaldi School Students Embark on Borneo Expedition with Camps International
On Thursday 24th July 2025 we had 24 adventurous students from The Garibaldi School set off on an unforgettable four week expedition to Borneo with Camps International. Accompanied by dedicated staff members, Mr Hales and Miss Bleasdale, also Leah Miller from Nova Education Trust the students will immerse themselves in a life changing experience, combining adventure, conservation, and community support.
The expedition will see the students engaging in a variety of activities aimed at making a positive impact on local communities and the environment. From conservation projects that support reforestation and wildlife protection to working alongside local people to improve infrastructure, the trip promises to be both rewarding and educational.
One of the highlights of the journey will be an exhilarating scuba diving experience, where students will have the opportunity to explore Borneo’s stunning marine ecosystems. This activity will not only provide an incredible adventure but also highlight the importance of marine conservation, as participants gain firsthand insight into the fragile underwater world.
Throughout the four weeks, students will develop essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and cultural awareness. Living and working in a completely different environment will push them out of their comfort zones and allow them to grow both personally and academically.
Mr Hales and Miss Bleasdale, who will be leading the trip, have expressed their excitement about guiding the students through this unique journey.
Students have been preparing through fundraising efforts and team building sessions for over a year. Their hard work and dedication will undoubtedly make this an unforgettable experience for all involved.
The entire Garibaldi School community eagerly awaits updates from the team while they embark on this extraordinary adventure. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to hearing about their experiences upon their return!
On Thursday, 4th April, students at The Garibaldi School had the opportunity to swap their uniforms for their favorite outfits as part of a Non-Uniform Day fundraiser. The event aims to support a group of dedicated students who are preparing for an incredible journey to Borneo in the summer of 2025.
For just a small donation, students came dressed in their own clothes, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting our Borneo journey. This experience will not only broaden their horizons but also contribute to meaningful projects that support local communities and protect endangered wildlife in Borneo.
We always encourage everyone to participate and make these events a success as they are always for a good cause. We managed to raise £215.20. Thank you to all involved.
A Journey Through History: The Garibaldi School Battlefields Trip
Some of our students recently embarked on a trip to Belgium for the annual Battlefields Trip—a four day journey of learning, remembrance, and reflection. Throughout the week, they walked in the footsteps of history, gaining a deeper understanding of the First World War and its enduring impact.
The trip began with a visit to the In Flanders Fields Museum, where students engaged with powerful exhibits that told the human stories behind the war. Through photos, artifacts, and interactive displays, they began to grasp the scale of the conflict and the personal sacrifices made.
Students also visited Hill 62 Sanctuary Wood, home to original WWI trenches and authentic wartime artifacts. Walking through the preserved lines, our students experienced the harsh and haunting realities of trench warfare—a sobering reminder of the courage and resilience of those who served.
Moments of Remembrance
One of the most poignant experiences of the trip took place at the Menin Gate in Ypres, where Garibaldi School students had the honour of laying a wreath during the Last Post Ceremony. This powerful tradition, held nightly, pays tribute to the thousands of soldiers who gave their lives during the war. Our students represented the school with dignity and respect, and we are incredibly proud of them for rising to this moment with such maturity and grace.
Exploring the Battlefields
From Hill 60 to The Caterpillar Crater, students explored key WWI sites, uncovering the stories behind massive mining operations and battlefield strategies. The Caterpillar, an enormous crater created by one of 19 underground explosions in 1917, left a lasting impression—its sheer scale a striking symbol of the war’s devastating force.
The journey continued at the Passchendaele Museum, where immersive exhibits, underground dugouts, and reconstructed trenches brought history vividly to life. Here, students reflected on the experiences of those who lived and died on the Western Front.
A Final Tribute
The trip concluded with a visit to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world. Surrounded by thousands of white headstones and names etched in stone, students took time to reflect on the immeasurable loss and legacy of the First World War. It was a quiet, moving experience—one that will stay with them for years to come.
Thank you to all staff, students, and families involved in making this meaningful journey possible we are sure they returned home with new insights and lasting memories.
Garibaldi School Sports Day - A Celebration of Talent and Team Spirit!
The Garibaldi School Sports Day was a fantastic success, filled with energy, enthusiasm, and unforgettable moments!
In the morning, our incredible Year 9 and Year 10 students took to the field with determination and pride. They competed in a wide range of events — from sprints and long-distance runs to javelin, shot put, and long jump. The competition was fierce, but it was matched by the students’ excellent sportsmanship and team spirit throughout.
In the afternoon, it was time for our amazing Year 7 and Year 8 students to shine. They showcased their skills, speed, and resilience across both track and field events. From powerful throws in shot put and javelin to impressive performances on the track, every student gave it their all and represented the school with pride.
Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make the day so special. It was a true celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit. Go Team Garibaldi! #Pride #Respect #Achieve
On Wednesday June 25th, 46 Year 9 pupils attended workshop and interactive sessions at the Holocaust Museum in Newark. Students were led around the museum and saw a great number of artifacts from those that suffered during the Holocaust, including a toy car taught about in school during Holocaust Memorial Day. They then had an amazing opportunity to listen first hand to a Holocaust survivor deliver their testimony and surviving the horrors of camps such as Westerbork. They asked many amazing questions to enrich their learning before taking part in workshops and discussions related to remembering the Holocaust in the modern world and tackling antisemitism today. It has been truly fantastic to see so many engage on such a deep level with the topic and done so in a brilliantly respectful way.
We were honoured to welcome Simon Winston, a Holocaust survivor, to The Garibaldi School on Tuesday 22nd July 2025. Mr Winston spoke to our Year 9 students, sharing his powerful and deeply moving story of survival during one of history’s darkest chapters.
This visit offered our students in Year 9 a unique opportunity to hear a first hand account of the Holocaust—an experience that goes far beyond the pages of a textbook. Through Simon’s personal testimony, students will gain a deeper understanding of the impact of prejudice, the importance of tolerance, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
Events like this are a vital part of our commitment to educating students about history, empathy, and social responsibility. We are incredibly grateful to Simon for giving his time to share his experiences and help ensure that the lessons of the past are never forgotten.
We enjoyed welcoming him to our school community and are confident that his visit will leave a lasting impression.
Our Year 10 students successfully completed the final two expeditions for their Duke of Edinburgh Award this July. Throughout the year, they engaged in a range of voluntary, physical, and skills-based activities, culminating in two overnight camping expeditions held a week apart in the local countryside.
Accompanied by Ms Gibbs, Mr Hall, Dr Levitt, Dr Inglis, Miss Pilmore, Mrs Lee, and Mr Fayers, the first trip served as a practice expedition from Cotgrave to Langar. Here, students refined essential outdoor skills including map reading, tent pitching, and the all-important art of pasta cooking.
The second trip was their qualifying expedition—a true test of independence and resilience. Students planned their own walking routes and carried all necessary camping gear as they navigated unsupervised from Cresswell Crags to Sherwood Forest in Edwinstowe, showcasing their teamwork and determination.
Over the course of four days, they experienced the full range of British summer weather—from searing sunshine to driving rain—adding both difficulty and memorable moments. One standout example of determination came from Olivia ‘Barefoot’ Roberts whose sole fell off her shoe on her walk back to camp, she basically walked back with just the top of her shoe and barefoot —but Dad saved the day with a new boots delivery and she chose to persevere and finish the journey with her team. Joshua Charity took a de-tour on the expedition walk to stop off at the Coop to fill up on supplies and Emmanuel turning up to camp wearing denim shorts, linen shirt trainers and a bum-bag, everyone thought he was off to the seaside for the day.
Each and every one of them were outstanding and we couldn’t be prouder of what this group has achieved. Well done!
Year 10 & 12 Field Trip to the Holderness Coast
On Monday 14th July, Year 10 and Year 12 Geography students embarked on a field trip to the Holderness Coast as part of their GCSE and A-Level studies.
The first stop was Flamborough Head, where students explored key coastal processes such as erosion, mass movement, and weathering. They examined how these forces shape dramatic landforms including headlands, caves, arches, stacks, stumps, wave-cut notches, and wave-cut platforms.
Next, at Mappleton, students investigated the question: "How does coastal management affect physical processes at Mappleton?" Using a range of fieldwork equipment—including clinometers, ranging poles, tape measures, rulers, and quadrats—they collected data for beach profiles, sediment size, and groyne effectiveness. This data will be analysed further back in the classroom.
The final destination was Withernsea, where the focus was on hard engineering strategies. Students observed how sea walls, rip rap, and groynes are used to combat coastal erosion and protect the town’s infrastructure.
To round off the day, there was just enough time to enjoy some traditional fish and chips and icecreams on the beach!
"A fantastic day was had by both staff and students in our outdoor classroom. We were fortunate with the weather—and even spotted plenty of seals which was a highlight!" said Mr Brennan, Head of Geography.
The trip was a valuable and enjoyable experience for both students and staff, bringing classroom theory to life through real-world exploration.
Year 10 Students’ Work Experience Placements: A Glimpse into Professional Life
As part of the educational journey, Year 10 students went out for an exciting week long work experience placement from Monday 31st March 2025. This initiative provided students with an invaluable opportunity to step outside the classroom, gain practical skills, and explore various career paths. The 102 students who went out on placements which included diverse fields such as primary education, electrical services, and health and wellness, allowing students to assess their future aspirations while gaining real world insights into various professions. We had a couple of students receiving jobn offers and lots of positive feedback. Our Year 10 students were a credit to our school.
The Importance of Work Experience
Participating in work experience placements is crucial in helping students bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real world applications. These experiences encourage self-discovery and personal growth, allowing students to reflect on their interests and strengths. By engaging with professionals and experiencing workplace dynamics, students can make more informed decisions regarding their future career paths and academic pursuits. Moreover, work experience fosters essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and adaptability, which are critical in any future employment scenario.
Looking Ahead
This initiative not only enhances students’ resumes but also prepares them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. By immersing themselves in diverse workplaces, Year 10 students will return to the classroom with newfound enthusiasm and insights that can positively influence their educational and career trajectories.
In conclusion, these work experience placements are a pivotal opportunity for Year 10 students to gain perspectives that can shape their futures. We look forward to seeing the enthusiasm, curiosity, and skills that will emerge from this year's placements, paving the way for the next generation of professionals. Whether in the classroom, on the job site, or in the realm of health and wellness, these young individuals are set to embark on a journey that promises to be both enlightening and transformative.
Year 7 Students Explore the Mathematics of Horse Racing at Southwell Racecourse
Year 7 students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Southwell Racecourse, where they explored the fascinating world of horse racing through the lens of mathematics. The day was filled with hands-on learning experiences that brought classroom concepts to life in a unique and memorable setting.
Throughout the visit, students investigated a wide range of mathematical applications—from weights, measurements, and the handicapping system, to the geometry involved in designing fences and the symmetry found in jockeys’ silks. They also delved into the science behind jockey nutrition and gained insights into various career paths within the racing industry.
A highlight of the day was hearing from professional jockeys, including one who impressively placed 5th in the Grand National. Students also had the chance to step into a jockey’s shoes—virtually—using VR headsets to simulate the experience of riding in a race.
Our students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating enthusiasm, curiosity, and exemplary behaviour throughout the day. It was a fantastic opportunity to see how mathematics is used in the real world—and to have a lot of fun along the way!
Students Dance into Reward Time with a Silent Disco!
On Thursday 12th June, we hosted our first-ever Garibaldi Silent Disco for 120 students who achieved high ViPos and excellent attendance. It was a fantastic event and a well-deserved celebration of their efforts.
Students swapped books for beats as they celebrated their achievements with a selection of music, earning their place on the dance floor through hard work and reward points!
The event was a unique and exciting way to recognise those who had consistently demonstrated positive behaviour, effort, and engagement in school life. With wireless headphones on, glow sticks galore and students choosing from multiple music channels they danced away to their favorite tunes—without a single speaker in sight! From chart-toppers to dance classics to tik tok songs, there was something for everyone. We even finished off with selection of requests.
The silent disco created a fun and inclusive atmosphere, where friends could sing, dance, and laugh together, each to their own soundtrack. The colourful lights, a giant glowstick hula hoop and shared energy made the hall feel like a mini music festival—right in the middle of the school day.
Teachers praised the event (some of them enjoying it just as much as the students!) not only for its fun factor, but also for the way it encouraged students to stay motivated and focused throughout the term. The silent disco served as a fantastic reminder that effort and positive behaviour truly pay off.
With students asking when the silent disco will be, it's clear that this silent celebration hit all the right notes!
Students Celebrate Success with Epic Inflatable Reward Day!!!!
In a well deserved celebration of hard work, dedication, and positive behavior, students were recently treated to an unforgettable Ultimate Giant Inflatable Day — a reward event that brought laughter, excitement, and friendly competition to the school grounds.
The entire field was transformed into a vibrant inflatable playground, complete with some jaw-dropping attractions. Students had the chance to battle it out on the Wrecking Ball, test their endurance on the 120 foot Assault Course, and take on the infamous Unclimbable Ladder — a wobbly challenge that left many in fits of laughter as they tumbled into the safety mats below.
These standout students were recognized for consistently going above and beyond throughout the year, whether through outstanding effort, positive attitudes, or contributions to the school community. Their exclusive access to the ulitimate inflatables was just one more way to say “thank you” for being role models to others.
Teachers and staff cheered on the fun, and many even took part in the challenges, showing students that learning and laughter go hand in hand. With music, sunshine, and smiles all around, the event was a joyful reminder that hard work truly pays off — and sometimes, it comes with a bounce.
As the school looks ahead to the next term, students are already buzzing with anticipation for what future reward events might hold. One thing's for sure: they’ve set the bar sky-high — or at least 20 feet high on a giant inflatable slide!
Final Bike Club Enrichment of the year took place this week and what a ride it’s been! We wrapped up our last enrichment session with Dr Inglis, diving deep into bike maintenance, mechanics, and everything in between. From gears to brakes, everyone got hands on learning that’ll keep them rolling smoothly all summer long.
A huge thank you to Dr. Inglis for sharing his expertise and passion—these session was the perfect finale to an incredible year of cycling and learning.
Here’s to more miles, more knowledge, and even better rides ahead! Well done everyone.
Celebrating Success with Proud Tickets
At Friday breaktimes, our school takes a moment to shine a light on the positive efforts of our students through our Proud Ticket initiative.
Students who receive a Proud Ticket from a member of staff are invited to choose a reward — either an edible treat or a certificate. More than just a prize, it’s an opportunity for staff to personally connect with students and recognise their achievements.
The reasons for receiving a Proud Ticket are as diverse as our student body — from completing classwork to an exceptional standard, to demonstrating outstanding acts of kindness, leadership, or citizenship.
This initiative continues to foster a positive culture of recognition, motivation, and pride across our school community.
On Monday 12th May, a group of our exceptional Year 9 students travelled to the University of Leeds to celebrate their graduation from The Brilliant Club’s Scholars Programme. This special event marked the culmination of weeks of dedication, curiosity, and academic challenge.
Over the last half term, fourteen students were selected to take part in this prestigious programme, working closely with a PhD researcher to experience university-style learning first-hand. Their focus was on the fascinating fields of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, where they explored how medicines are developed, tested, and function within the human body.
The programme concluded with each student producing a 2,000-word university-level essay, proposing a new medicine to treat an illness of their choice. This demanding task required them to apply complex scientific concepts, demonstrate critical thinking, and communicate their ideas with clarity and precision.
“Although it was challenging, it gave me an insight to the standard of work at university and pushed me to work at a very difficult level” – Phoebe Spencer
This experience has not only given our students a genuine insight into the world of academic research, but also helped them develop a wide range of valuable skills – from scientific writing and independent study to resilience and confidence in their abilities.
The final graduation event at the University of Leeds was a truly memorable celebration of everything our students had accomplished. Each of our Garibaldi students represented the school with pride, professionalism, and enthusiasm throughout the day.
They had the opportunity to connect with peers from other schools and engage with university staff, reflecting on the incredible journey they had undertaken. The ceremony was a fitting tribute to their hard work, as they received their well-earned certificates in a formal graduation setting.
A special highlight of the day was hearing from Gia Chauhan and Betsy Blackwell, who spoke with confidence and eloquence about their experiences. They shared how much the Scholars Programme had meant to them, and why The Brilliant Club had been such a valuable and inspiring opportunity.

We are incredibly proud of their achievements and can’t wait to see where their academic journeys take them next!
Year 11 students across school marked their final week before exams with memorable celebrations and heartfelt moments shared with their mentors. This was not only a time for reflection but also a unique opportunity for students and teachers to come together and acknowledge the hard work and dedication that has paved the way to this crucial point over the past 5 years.
These moments serve as powerful reminders of the support systems that have been in place throughout their academic journey.
Mentors, who have often spent years nurturing students' growth, also take this time to impart final words of wisdom and encouragement. Whether through handwritten notes, shared stories, or personal reflections, the bond between mentors and students is a testament to the community spirit within school.
Aside from the sentimental goodbyes and words of wisdom, there were also lighter moments of celebration. Treats such as cakes, snacks, and even personalised gifts were exchanged, symbolising appreciation and mutual respect.
This final week leading to exams is not just about celebration—it's about preparation too. Schools often blend the festivities with study sessions and last-minute revision workshops, ensuring that students are both mentally and emotionally ready for the challenges ahead.
A Lasting Impact.........
For many Year 11 students, these final celebrations mark the end of an era. The relationships built with mentors during their time at Garibaldi often extend beyond the classroom, creating lasting impressions that influence students long after they leave school. The final week stands as a bridge between the familiarity of school life and the next steps into further education or career paths.
As exam season approaches, Year 11 students move forward with the encouragement and support of their mentors fresh in their minds—a powerful reminder that learning is not just about grades, but about the connections and growth experienced along the way.
School will be open on the morning of the following dates for our Year 11 and Year 13 students to collect their exam results.
Thursday 14th August 2025- A Level Results (Year 13)

We look forward to seeing you all and hopefully lots of smiles & celebrations!
It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know our new Year 7 students—and their families—throughout this half term.
Our dedicated staff visited our feeder primary schools earlier in the year, spending valuable time with teachers to gain insights into each child. These conversations have been instrumental in ensuring a smooth and supportive transition for our incoming students.
We have also welcomed several of our feeder schools to The Garibaldi School for engaging sporting events, including gymnastics and rounders. These visits provided students with the chance to explore our facilities and begin to familiarise themselves with our school environment.
On Tuesday 1st July, we were delighted to host parents for our Year 7 Introductory Evening. This was a great opportunity for families to meet their child’s mentor and attend a presentation in the main hall, delivered by Mr Glynne-Jones, Head of Transition. Parents also had the chance to arrange uniform fittings and ask questions, while our staff and student ambassadors proudly represented the very best of our school community.
Following this, we held two fantastic transition days on the 2nd and 3rd of July. During these days, students joined their mentor groups and experienced a full day of lessons—giving them a true taste of life at The Garibaldi School.
We are now eagerly looking forward to officially welcoming our new Year 7 cohort on Monday, 1st September for a morning session, followed by a full school day on Tuesday 2nd September. We can’t wait to see them flourish and make the most of the many opportunities ahead!

We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding commitment of our students during our Attendance Challenge during this term! Attendance plays a crucial role in academic success, and we couldn’t be prouder of the dedication shown by our school community.
As a well deserved reward, the students with high attendance have been receiving gift vouchers and other rewards - a small token of appreciation for their effort and consistency.
Consistent school attendance helps students stay engaged in their learning, develop strong habits for the future, and foster a sense of responsibility. We encourage all students to continue striving for excellent attendance and making the most of their time in school.
Congratulations and let’s keep up the great work!
Lunchtimes have taken on a new level of energy and excitement as students across various year groups participate in Taekwondo and Kickboxing sessions held on school grounds. These dynamic martial arts classes have quickly become a popular option for students looking to stay active, learn new skills, and build confidence—all during their lunch break.
Led by experienced instructors, the sessions focus on discipline, technique, and self-control, while also providing a fun and supportive environment for students of all abilities. From powerful kicks and quick footwork to self-defence drills and pad work, students are gaining not just physical strength, but mental focus and resilience as well.
Beyond the physical benefits, the classes also promote important life skills such as respect, perseverance, and goal-setting—values that are central to both martial arts and the school ethos.
The positive response has been overwhelming, with students regularly turning up eager to train, support one another, and challenge themselves. For some, these lunchtime sessions have sparked a new passion for martial arts that they hope to continue beyond school.
With growing interest and enthusiasm, the school looks forward to continuing and expanding these sessions—helping students stay active, healthy, and confident in body and mind.
Drum and guitar lessons are available in school next year with lots of students already taking advantage of the heavily subsidised lesson prices.
Guitar lessons take place on Thursday mornings with Mr Goodwin and drum lessons on a Tuesday with Mr Ellis. The cost of the lessons are £50 for a full term which is to be paid in advance. This includes a minimum of 10 lessons all 20 minutes in duration during lesson time subject to training/INSET days. The times are on rotation so the same subject is not missed each week.
If students are interested in finding out more, please see Miss Biggs in Music 1 at break or lunchtimes who will be happy to give you further information.
The attached letter may provide more information at this stage.
We’re excited to announce the launch of 'The Garibaldi Shop' a new on site shop designed to support students by providing essential stationery items at cost price if they need it during the school day.
Whether it's pens, pencils, rulers, or other classroom supplies (even water bottles), The Garibaldi Shop will offer a range of everyday items students may need — all available at very low prices to purchase. The aim is to make sure every student has easy access to the tools they need to succeed in their learning and the equipment they will be expected to carry with them every day from the start of the next academic year.
The shop will be accessible every day before school and during break times, giving students multiple opportunities to make quick and convenient purchases. This will be cash only as the prices are extremely low.
As a reminder, the expectation is that all students arrive at school each day fully equipped. As a minimum, students should have the following items in a pencil case:
2 black pens
1 red pen
1 pencil
1 ruler
1 rubber
The Garibaldi Shop helps ensure that all students are well prepared for learning every day and reduce the pressures for parents having to go out and buy these when they are lost, broken or run out.
Here at The Garibaldi School, we are incredibly PROUD to announce that we managed to raise £750 for the Lashes Foundation and GALOP; an LGBTQ+ mental health charity over PRIDE month.
This money has been raised by our charitable students through a variety of activities, including:
Cake sales (including delicious donuts and cookies)
Merchandise sales (including wristbands and badges)
Lashes products sales (including water bottles and beautiful pens)
We want to thank our community and our wonderful students for your generosity and kindness towards two really important charities. This will make a real difference to some of our struggling teens across the nation.
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a student, please do make contact with the school.
You will be able to speak with any member of staff in school, your concerns may be referred onto the Designated Safeguarding Leads in school. Details of our Designated Safeguarding Leads are on the above poster which is available to students all over school.
Students can speak with any member of staff in school, including (but not limited to) their mentor, pastoral manager or teachers
