Information, advice and guidance on Sixth Form careers
Careers entitlement
Year 12
The Careers provision in Year 12 develops students' research and reflection skills to enable them to make informed decisions about their next steps. Students are exposed to and guided through a range of different opportunities to allow them to fact-find and make reasoned judgements, such as UCAS/Universities and Degree Apprenticeships:
- College Induction Day with subject taster sessions (July of Year 11)
- Self-reflecting target setting with their mentor
- Continue work on transferable skills in preparation for University, apprenticeships including degree and employment during Development Time
- Employer Engagement Days (Experian; Mansfield District Council for Terms 1 and 2 2022-2023)
- Personal Development (taught element) schemes on Living in the Wider World (Sixth Form Careers, Employability, and Personal Finance)
- Review and update CV ensuring personal profile is relevant to careers aspirations
- Research on a variety of websites (see links at the bottom of this page)
- Research the top Universities and apprenticeships including degree apprenticeships.
- In-school visits from Oxford, Cambridge, University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University
- Information evening on UCAS process (July)
- Destination planning
- Raising Aspirations Week and Evening in March
- Opportunities to mentor younger students - Enrichment at Garibaldi
- University Masterclasses at Lincoln and University of Nottingham.
- 1:1 support from Miss Hadley with action plan for students and parents/carers
- Continue charity fund raising.
- Recruitment of Student Leaders
- 1:1 Science Tutoring opportunities to tutor Year 11 students
- 1-1 Support with University and Apprenticeship applications
- Access to Unifrog – selecting suitable pathway and personal statement writing
- Use of Smart Portal (Mansfield District Council)

Year 13
During Year 13 students will be working with their own mentor and year group on a range of careers-related activities. The key area will be for students to make well informed decisions on a career pathway suitable to them. Students will be supported with UCAS applications for university, applications for apprenticeships including degree apprenticeships, gap year and employment:
Research on a variety of Universities, apprenticeships (including degree) and employment pathways
- Individual target setting and reflection with mentor
- 1-2-1 mentoring during application to University or other suitable destination, ensuring students get into their first choice of university and course (with Miss Hadley)
- Employer Engagement Days (Experian; Mansfield District Council for Terms 1 and 2 2022-2023)
